Rivanna RiverFest kicks off summer
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Rivanna RiverFest was a great way for families to enjoy the warmer weather.
The Rivanna River Company and the Rivanna Conservation Alliance teamed up to host a kid-friendly event on Sunday. There were free activities, live music, and free tubing.
Lisa Witterborn, the executive director of the Rivanna Conservation Alliance, said when people get to go tubing for free, it eliminates the money barrier. People can enjoy the refreshing water while learning more about nature.
“There’s nothing like being out on the river and really learning to love it to make you want to take care of it. And do what you can at your own house and in your own life to help protect what we really need to be valuing more,” she said.
The RCA does a lot to help preserve the water such as stream clean-ups, planting trees, and water quality monitoring.
June 3 is “Clean the Bay Day.” A few organizations are planning clean-ups around the area. Visit Rivanna River for more information.
