Teen arrested for April incident involving stolen vehicle with children inside
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Albemarle County Police Department has arrested a teen in connection with an April child abduction and vehicle theft.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:10 p.m. April 4 when officers responded to the 4000 block of Cypress Pointe Drive for a report of a stolen vehicle and abduction.
When they arrived, the officers learned an unknown person had taken a silver 2011 Kia Sorento, in which there were two children, one four-year-old and the other two months old.
About 20 minutes later, a community member found the children abandoned in the area of the Colonnades on Barracks Road.
Police then found the stolen vehicle, unoccupied, nearby on Burgoyne Road.
The investigation determined that a 17-year-old was responsible for this incident as well as other recent motor vehicle thefts around the area.
On Friday, the 17-year-old was arrested on two counts of endangering the life of a child, felony destruction of property, and six counts of motor vehicle theft.
The teen is being held at the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center.
