Charlottesville, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Botanical Garden of the Piedmont and Bennett's Village are collaborating to bring the New York Times best-selling book “Just Ask!” to life for area residents at 10 a.m. on June 3.

Authored by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, “Just Ask!” celebrates the different abilities children have as they work together to build a community garden.

Teams from BGP and Bennett’s Village will bring the book to life through storytelling and outdoor activities. The event is free to the community.

"Research shows that both physical and mental health outcomes improve with regular access to nature,” said Jill Trischman-Marks, BGP Executive Director. “It’s our goal to make everyone, regardless of ability, feel welcome at the Garden so the entire community can experience the benefits of well-being through access to nature."

“Bennett’s Village is delighted to partner with the BGP on this important event,” added Kara McClurken, President of Bennett’s Village. “Both of our organizations are working to lower barriers to recreational play and foster connection in outdoor spaces.”

The two-hour event begins with a reading of the book. Guests will then be invited to visit areas that create real-life outdoor experiences by playing with taste, touch, hearing and sight.  The event will happen next to the entrance to the Garden on Melbourne Road. Limited on-site parking will be available for anyone who has limited mobility.

In case of rain, the event will take place on June 10.
