Bridge project to close part of Plank Road

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An Albemarle County bridge will be closing for a little more than two weeks.
The Virginia Department of Transportation says the bridge over the Mechums River on Plank Road will close on June 12.
Crews will be replacing its superstructure, which is expected to be finished by June 27.
During the project, drivers on the west side of the bridge will need to take Plank Road to Rockfish Gap Turnpike and then to Interstate 64 East. They will use Exit 118 to take Monacan Trail Road south to Plank Road.
People starting out east of the bridge will take Plank Road to Monacan Trail Road up to I-64 West and get off at Exit 107 to Rockfish Gap Turnpike and then onto Plank Road.
VDOT says the current structure includes a concrete deck supported by steel beams, with abutments that were originally built in 1903. It currently has a posted weight limit of 17 tons.
