UPDATE: The Virginia Department of Transportation reports the bridge inspection on Interstate 64 has been completed.

The work zone at mile marker 110 has now been lifted and traffic backups will clear.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A westbound lane of Interstate 64 will be closing this afternoon due to a bridge inspection.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the right westbound lane at mile marker 110 in western Albemarle County will close at 1 p.m.

According to a release, this is an unplanned inspection that is necessary before repair work begins on the bridge.

The lane closure is expected to last for three or four hours, so drivers heading west on the interstate should expect to see congestion and delays.
