ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Residents of southern Albemarle County won’t have to go as far if they want to recycle certain items.

The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority will be opening a new convenience center in Keene on Thursday.

The center, which is located at 6269 Esmont Road, will offer source-separated recycling.

It will accept corrugated cardboard, newsprint, office paper, mixed paper, plastic films, #1 and #2 plastic containers, glass containers, mixed metals, and aluminum beverage containers.

It will also have “Tag-a-Bag” household trash disposal.

The facility will be open Fridays through Wednesdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it will be closed on Thursdays.

RSWA owns and operates this new facility, which was built using funds from Albemarle County.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Thursday at 10 a.m., rain or shine.
