CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Longtime Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese has been named the next UVA men's lacrosse associate head coach and offensive coordinator.

Cassese comes to UVA after spending the past 16 years as the head of the Lehigh men's lacrosse team. During his long tenure Cassese coached the Mountain Hawks to an impressive 139-105 record, becoming the winningest coach in program history. He led the Mountain Hawks to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Under his leadership the team's offense averaged 13.73 goals per game as the 17th highest scoring offense in college lacrosse.

Cassese inherits another explosive offense as his joins the UVA staff, taking over for Sean Kirwan, who has accepted the Dartmouth head coaching position.

This past season, UVA was the only program in the country with three players averaging 4.5 points per game. That high octane offense carried the Cavaliers to an NCAA semifinals appearance and a 13-4 record.
