The Los Angeles Dodgers draft Jake Gelof with 60th pick

SEATTLE, Wa. (CBS19 SPORTS)-- The home run king has found his next kingdom; the City of Angels. With the 60th pick of the MLB draft the Los Angeles Dodgers select UVA junior third baseball Jake Gelof. Coincidentally, Gelof's brother Zach Gelof was also selected as the 60th overall pick to the Oakland Athletics in 2021.
Through just three seasons in Charlottesville Gelof left a long lasting impression on the UVA baseball program. Gelof ended his career with Virginia as the program's season and career leader in home runs and RBI, knocking 48 home runs and 186 RBIs. He is the only player with 70 or 80 RBI in two different season in program history. Gelof appeared in 161 games totaling 159 runs, 189 hits, and posted a career .329 batting average. At the end of the 2023 season, Gelof was named an All-ACC First Team selection, a NCBWA Second-Team All-American, a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Second-Team All-American, and a Perfect Game Third-Team All-American.
Gelof was the second cavalier to hear his name called Sunday night, following teammate Kyle Teel who was taken at no. 14 overall to the Boston Red Sox. The next cavalier expected to be taken on day two is outfielder Ethan O'Donnell.
