UVA Health ranked among best for heart care
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Becker’s Hospital Review has named a University of Virginia Health System center as among the best for 2023.
According to a release, UVA Health’s Heart and Vascular Center is on the list of 100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs.
Becker’s writes that the institutions on this list offer “exemplary heart care, patient outcomes and leading technologies.” And facilities like UVA Health that conduct research help to create major breakthroughs when it comes to cardiology.l
In its description for UVA Health, Becker’s says this center is a renowned facility that gives “expert and comprehensive care.”
“The hospital's cardiology and heart surgery services are nationally recognized, and it has maintained the highest possible rating for aortic valve replacement surgery since 2009,” stated the review. “Furthermore, UVA Health is committed to cutting-edge research and has made significant advancements in areas such as cardiac imaging, genetic studies on coronary artery disease, and identifying contributors to high blood pressure.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
In 2021, about 695,000 people in the U.S. died from heart disease, or about one in every five deaths.
The list also includes Carilion Clinic Cardiovascular Institute in Roanoke, Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, and the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond.
