CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Visible Records is teaming up with Plenty Cville to launch “Free Fridge,” a mutual aid project for anyone who is food insecure.

Produce from the community garden behind Visible Records will be stored in fridges. The organizations also encourage people to drop off their own donations. There is a freezer section too.

“One of the primary ideas of these fridges is that there’s a lot of extra food from farms and restaurants that get thrown out. So this could be a place to make that accessible to people instead of wasting it,” said Matt Dhillon, Free Fridge volunteer.

The goal of the “Free Fridge” is to bring the community together, reduce waste and help reduce food insecurity.

There are guidelines for donation. Check out their Instagram, Little Free Fridge Cville.
