CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department is investigating an incident that has been described as a "swatting" incident.

A call went out Monday morning for a possible shooting on Michie Drive.

Officers responded to the scene, searching for a potential gunshot victim.

Shortly after the investigation began, CPD Chief Kochis says it appears this was a swatting incident.

These kinds of incidents involve someone calling law enforcement for a violent crime, such as a shooting, saying that it occurred at a particular address.

However, when law enforcement agencies get to that address, they find no situation.

On July 1, Virginia upgraded punishments for such incidents.
