CARS donates retired ambulance to sister city
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- While the Winneba delegation visited Charlottesville, they received a donation of a retired ambulance from the Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad.
Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, the mayor of Winneba, expressed so much gratitude and explains that this won’t only benefit the people of Winneba.
“You know Winneba is on a stretch between Nigeria and Côte d’lvoire. From Nigeria we have Benin, we have Togo, then we have Ghana, we have Côte d’Ivoire. All four of these African countries will enjoy and benefit from the ambulance that is going to Winneba,” he said.
In the fall, CARS Chief Virginia Lavell will visit Winneba once the ambulance is delivered to present the ambulance to the people of Winneba and do some training to properly use it.
“Just kind of sharing the wealth that our donors have shared with us. I think that everyone who contributes to the rescue squad can feel really good about their charitable dollars extending beyond Charlottesville at this point,” said Lavell.
Lavell will be driving the ambulance to a port in Baltimore on Monday where it will be taken to Winneba on a cargo ship and will be delivered in a few weeks.
