City Hall to be closed for 'extended period'

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Repairs and renovation work means the lobby of Charlottesville City Hall is going to be closed for an extended period.
Due to this, some city offices have relocated so that they can continue their operations.
People who need to go to the City Treasurer’s Office should use the mall side garage entrance by the elevator on East Main Street. This is co-located with the Department of Parks and Recreation administration.
In order to get to the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office, people will need to use the mall-side entrance of the Downtown Transit Center, which is directly across the Downtown Mall from City Hall.
Neighborhood Development Services can still be reached through the Market Street Entrance to City Hall or by phone at (434) 970-3182.
And the Utility Billing Office can be reached with questions about utility service or account services by calling (434) 970-3211.
It and other City Hall offices can be visited by stopping by the Ambassador Kiosk in front of City Hall.
The best parking option is still the Market Street parking garage.
The lobby was already scheduled to be closed for a major renovation project, but that was bumped by a water leak last month.
Water damage has impacted three floors of the building, including the chamber with the Charlottesville City Council meets.
In July, City Manager Sam Sanders described the damage as catastrophic.
The work to repair the damage and complete the renovation is expected to last until January.
