CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Charlottesville City Schools kicked off their school year off today with a "Professional Learning Palooza."

This morning, more than 800 division employees gathered at the Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center at Charlottesville High School to get excited to welcome students back from summer. Superintendent Dr. Royal Gurley and principals of different schools pumped up the crowd of educators with a dance. After the dance, he spoke about the upcoming school year.

The first day of school for Charlottesville City Schools is Wednesday, August 23rd.
