CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- It was a big day for the class of 2027 at the University of Virginia as incoming students flocked from all over the country, after the university had a record-breaking number of applications last year.

Throughout Thursday and Friday, nearly 4,000 new students will move into their dorms with the help of family, friends and current UVA students.

Rising fourth-year Kaylah Muhammad says her advice for the incoming first-years is to set goals and track accomplishments throughout the year.

“In your first year of college, that is where you will see the most growth, and if you track it, you can see how you succeed. And you're at UVA so you're going to do great, so don't worry about it. Good luck everyone," Muhammad said.

Classes will begin for undergraduate students next Aug. 22.
