CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Volunteers from the Humane League protested outside of BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse Saturday to raise awareness for animal cruelty.

They say they want to hold the restaurant chain accountable for something they said in 2016.

“BJ's promised they would transition the majority of their egg supply to cage-free by 2020, and to fully transition to cage-free eggs by 2025. But they have not reported progress on their cage-free goals and in March 2023 We are asking them to publish a cage-free roadmap showing their cage-free plans,” The Humane League Volunteer, Summer Bledsoe, said.

In a statement, BJ's wrote it “informed its egg vendor partners of the expectation that they fully transition to purchasing cage-free eggs by 2025 and is on target to achieve that goal.”

BJ’s Restaurants also says it already sources the majority of its egg products from cage-free housing systems.
