Janssen's goal lifts UVA field hockey over No. 14 Harvard
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Laura Janssen's goal in the third quarter was all the No. 6 Virginia field hockey needed to beat No. 14 Harvard Sunday afternoon.
“It was a very competitive game," head coach Michele Madison said after the game. "Both teams fought hard. Every minute of that game was spent trying to produce some attacking opportunities. Both teams' denial defense was just spot on. We were fortunate to execute one of our corners.”
Sophomore midfielder Madison Orsi set up the scoring opportunity off a corner, finding junior back Jans Croons. From there, Croons fired a shot towards goal and Janssen was able to redirect it into the net. The Cavaliers held strong defensively from that point led by junior goalkeeper Tyler Kennedy, who finished with her second shutout of the season.
The Cavs begin ACC play on Friday when they host No. 16 Boston College on Friday at 5 p.m.
