CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A grassroots nonprofit just got a substantial boost in its efforts to bring more equality and accessibility to play spaces for children and families in the community.

Since 2018, Bennett’s Village has been raising money to replace Pen Park with a more accessible area for everyone.

The nonprofit has a $500,000 goal to complete the first phase, which is an all-inclusive tree house.

Sentara Health is helping it reach that goal with a $25,000 donation.

“The Sentara Cares Grant is all about ensuring every member of our community has access to a healthy lifestyle and we’re just grateful that they understand as much as we do that active play and that physical activity is a vital part,” said Samantha Strong, a member of Bennett's Village board.

With this grant, Bennett's Village has raised $350,000, which is 70 percent of its goal.
