CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Sept. 17 marks the 234th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution being adopted.

Non-partisan groups and members of the community gathered on the Downtown Mall to hear from speakers on the importance of democracy.

“So, it’s a day to celebrate our founding document and also a call to action and civic engagement so people can reconnect to those values that make America so great,” Meg Heubeck, President of The League of Women Voters, said.

Along with the speakers, local musicians Theocles, Jon Nafziger, and the Green Grannies also performed.
