ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Pet parents who want to share how their adopted pet has changed their lives still have time to help an area animal shelter win big.

The nonprofit Petco Love has teamed up with BOBS from Skechers for the Petco Love Stories campaign.

According to a release, this campaign celebrates the bond between pet parents and their adopted animal while raising awareness about the importance of pet adoption.

On Valentine’s Day, 18 organizations from across the country will receive grants thanks to the Love Stories winners, with more than $500,000 up for grabs.

Pet parents can share their personal stories of love, joy, resilience, compassion and transformation stemming from bringing a pet into their lives

“There is no end to the amazing, emotional stories of how pets change our lives,” said Petco Love President Susanne Kogut. “Through Petco Love Stories, we aim to highlight these remarkable bonds and create a platform where pet parents can share their stories while making a positive impact on the lives of animals in need."

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is encouraging local pet parents to step up and share their stories.

Pet parents who are at least 18 years old can share their stories here until Oct. 31.

Submissions need to be 500 words or less and photos can be included.

Since 2013, Petco Love has received more than 20,000 stories from pet adopters across the country and animal welfare organizations have gotten nearly $7 million as part of this campaign.
