GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 News) -- A local nonprofit received $15,000 from Sentara Health to expand on their energy project in Greene County.

Feeding Greene Incorporated applied to partner with Sentara for the first time this year and received a grant of $15,000. The fund will be going to a new specialized roof for solar panels.

“And what that's going to do is allow us to save tremendously over the next 20 to 30 years for sure, probably longer to have cleaner energy here and like I say allow for us to put more money into food which is what we need to be doing right now.” Rhonda Oliver, director of Feeding Greene Inc. said.

Oliver said the food insecurity in the area is higher than she has ever seen since working with Feeding Greene Inc. for nearly 30 years.
