Edgar Allan Poe themed escape room comes to Central Virginia
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Unlocked History Escape Rooms is bringing Edgar Allan Poe back to Central Virginia, but not in a way you’d expect.
“It’s a bit more of a spookier escape room, we wouldn’t call it a horror escape room, but it does have a couple of easy frights,” said Phil Riese, the owner of Unlocked History Escape Rooms.
“The Raven” escape room challenge was inspired by one of Poe’s most memorable stories, and this immersive experience captures all the bone-chilling things people remember him for.
“We use many of his stories like “The Raven,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Black Cat” and so on. And we try to use his own history as a part of the setting,” added Riese.
The challenge starts in Poe’s dorm room at UVA, but Poe has gone missing and you have to figure out what happened before it’s too late.
“During the escape room, you solve lots of puzzles, and locks, and different features, find hidden passageways, and eventually you find out what happened to Edgar Allan Poe and his fiancee, Lenore,” added Riese.
Participants are given an hour to complete the challenge, but it is recommended for ages 10 and up due to some of the jump scares throughout.
But there are lots of intricate parts that make the experience exciting and will keep you guessing until the end.
“All of our rooms have hidden passageways, but the one in “The Raven” is a lot of fun, it’s a little bit of a mystery,” added Riese.
