CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The emergency shelter service, PACEM, will open a week early this year, on October 21st, only a week from Saturday.

One of the reasons for the early opening is the encampment on Market Street Park. The early opening will provide shelter for those people.

The “tent city” sprang up a few weeks ago when City manager, Sam Sanders lifted the curfew for the park. In that time, it has since grown to almost 30 tents.

We have reached out to the City Manager’s office repeatedly to see what this could mean for Market Street Park. He has not responded to us. We will update this story as we learn more.
