CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A new, mid-century modern hotel has just opened near the University of Virginia Corner.

The Little Mod Hotel is a 1960s, retro boutique hotel with just 20 rooms, 15 guest rooms and five studios, meant for longer stays.

The hotel, which is pet-friendly, has been in the works for about two years, and each room has a number of details, like retro refrigerators, record players and records.

It also has a food truck on the property, The Mod Pod, which offers breakfast all day and tacos.

General Manager Jim Shideler says visitors can expect a different experience at this new property than in other hotels in Charlottesville.

"They're coming to a brand-new hotel that has a mid-century modern feel, it's something unique that you're not going to find anywhere else. And it's convenience from the university and the hospital, just being steps from the Corner," he said.

The Little Mod Hotel is hosting an open house on Nov. 14 and 15. The hotel will have drinks and food, as well as guest rooms open for members of the community to see.
