CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS)  – The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams capped off a two-day meet with Texas by sweeping the dual meet portion of the weekend. The Cavaliers in total won a total of 15 of the 18 events that occurred Saturday with the men winning 109-58 and the women winning 119-48. 

Gretchen Walsh headlined the day for the team in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing first in 46.42 seconds to beat her own best time of the season so far in the NCAA. Freshmen Tess Howley also finished the day with two individual wins in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard fly. 

Alex Walsh and graduate student Ella Nelson finished 1-2 in the 200-yard breast, just .7 seconds apart. Walsh won in 2:08.16 and Nelson was second in 2:08.86.

The men opened the day with a win in the 400-yard medley relay. Will Cole, Noah Nichols, Tim Connery and Connor Boyle finished with a time of 3:11.05. Boyle also picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle by 0.19 seconds over Texas's Luke Hobson. 

Sebastien Sergile won the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:46.91, leading a trio of Cavaliers that took the top three spots. Junior Matt Styczen was second (1:48.00) and junior Colin Bitz was third (1:49.10).

On the diving board, Lizzy Kaye finished with a season-best score of 344.03. 

The Cavaliers are back in the water next month when they compete in the Tennessee Invitational Nov. 15-17.
