CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia Equity Center and the UVA School of Data Science have teamed up for a new fellowship.

On Tuesday, the organizations announced the first year of the Community Data Fellowship, which aims to build capacity for community-engaged and equity-centered data science work among UVA students and partners in the community.

According to a release, fellows will be partners with local organizations seeking to use data to understand and advance justice and equity through the academic year.

The inaugural cohort of fellows includes Ethan Assefa, Silas Hayes, Lee Leboeuf, and Sanny Yang.

They are all graduate students in the School of Data Science, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Batten School of Public Policy.

This program is part of the Equity Center’s Democratization of Data Initiative.
