CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A special film festival is looking to support an area filmmaker facing a life-changing medical diagnosis.

Last year, Chris Farina was diagnosed with respiratory-onset amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

This upcoming Sunday, the Paramount Theater will be hosting the Farina Film Fest.

According to a release, the fest aims to raise $50,000 to help Farina and his family with the costs of his medical care.

It will feature clips from each of Farina’s eight film projects and speakers connected to each of them.

Farina currently requires full-time medical assistance and is on a ventilator. His wife, Jacqueline is acting as his primary caregiver while both of their children are away at college.

Tickets for the festival are in a “pay-what-you-want” format, which means attendees can make a donation to the family.

A GoFundMe has also been set up.
