CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The leaves are falling, which means people will be raking.

The city of Charlottesville says residents can sign up now for text alerts about its leaf collection services.

The vacuum trucks actually started going to different neighborhoods on Monday.

According to a release, each neighborhood will be visited by the trucks three times during the season.

The city will collect loose leaves at the curb and those leaves will be taken to a local farm for composting.

Leaves should be piled unbagged as close to the curb as possible without blocking the travel lanes for pedestrians, bicycles or vehicles. On-street parking areas can also be used.

There will be a drop-off location on Avon Street Extended available on Saturdays as well.

Text alerts will remind residents when their collection week is coming up. To sign up, text your address to (434) 771-0251.
