CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Charlottesville Police Department officer is in the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the police department, Officer Trevis Wood was hurt while trying to arrest a juvenile suspect on Monday.

Wood was trying to take the juvenile into custody when a struggle began and the juvenile allegedly assaulted the officer.

The juvenile then ran away and was arrested by other officers a short time later.

The juvenile is now facing a felony malicious wounding of a police officer charge.

Wood was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he is currently in stable condition.

He has been with CPD since May 2022.
