Water treatment chemical accidentally released into river

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Hundreds of gallons of a water treatment chemical were accidentally released into the South Rivanna River on Thursday.
The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority is reporting an unintentional release of some 1,200 gallons of a chemical called liquid lime at the South Rivanna Water Treatment Plant.
The chemical got into the South Rivanna River downstream of the reservoir dam.
RWSA says the Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality responded to the scene to control the spill.
At this time, RWSA says the community’s drinking water has not been affected.
