CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A local coffee shop is looking to change the coffee scene in Charlottesville. First Free Coffee will soon host comedy nights and live music as well as become the site of a podcast studio.

The owner, Steve Harvey, says it's all in the name, amplifying ideas and free speech. He adds that will play a key role with the podcast studio.

Anyone will be able to reserve a time slot to record, with all the cameras and audio equipment necessary ready to go.

“So we founded First Free Coffee Bar to be a community building space where people could get together, meet old friends, hang out, you know sit down for an hour or two and write on their computers or just chat with friends," said Harvey. "We’ve got tea for two, the idea was really to bring people together and sort of recover from all the craziness of the last couple years.”

Along with the goal of bringing people together, live music is also encouraged. With some instruments provided, customers are welcome to come in for a side of music with their daily coffee.

First Free Coffee is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
