Jury convicts Fauquier County resident on animal cruelty charges

FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A woman from Fauquier County has been convicted on dozens of animal cruelty charges.
Attorney General Jason Miyares announced on Monday that Irina Barrett was found guilty Friday of 60 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
According to a release, the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office searched Barrett’s home in January 2020 after being alerted about gross neglect of an eight-month-old Doberman puppy.
Officials say the puppy, named Yeva, had been deprived of food and veterinary care.
Authorities then found 75 other Dobermans and French Bulldogs living in very poor conditions and suffering from various health issues during their search.
The animals have been in the care of the Fauquier SPCA since that time.
Barrett is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
