ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A local dog needs surgery for a broken leg and pelvis, but the animal shelter caring for the animal needs help to pay for the procedures.

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA says the dog, Oliver, was surrendered by his owner last week.

Animal shelter staff were concerned when he appeared to refuse to put any weight on either left leg.

When they took x-rays, staff members found that Oliver was suffering from a fractured pelvis and an ulnar joint fracture.

An exam at Virginia Veterinary Specialists confirmed the fractures and it was determined Oliver needed urgent surgery.

CASPCA says Oliver needs two operations, the first to mend his front leg and the second to address the pelvic fracture.

While VVS does discount such procedures for the CASPCA, the surgeries and other treatments will still cost about $5,500.

So CASPCA is holding a fundraiser to cover the costs. To make a donation, click here.
