Downtown Mall gets a holiday makeover in honor of late restaurateur
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- After the recent loss of a local restaurateur, Will Richey, his family wanted to honor him with an idea he never had the chance to see through: Decking the mall out in holiday decorations.
Known to be a lover of the holiday season, Richey’s family and friends worked tirelessly with the city of Charlottesville over the past few days to organize and decorate trees and fill the Downtown Mall with some Christmas spirit in his honor.
“Will would have gone crazy. He just would have been so happy. He was so generous with all of us, so this was our way of being generous with him,” a friend of Richey, Claudine Wispelwey said.
Richey’s funeral will be open to the public at 11 a.m. Sunday at the CODE building on the Downtown Mall, as well as a celebration of life at 2 p.m. on the other end of the mall at Vault Virginia.
