CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is launching a new initiative that aims to reduce roadway-related fatalities and serious injuries.

The Move Safely Blue Ridge Initiative will kick off with a regional summit on CitySpace at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to a release, this is one of the organization’s first steps to gather input and engage with community leaders as part of the development of its transportation-related Safety Action Plan.

This Safety Action Plan is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All, or SS4A, program, which centers on safety improvements for multi-modal means of transportation.
