GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Greene County Parks and Recreation has received $7,500 from Sentara Health to assist with the cost of equipment for a fitness trail in Greene County Community Park in Ruckersville.

"The Parks and Recreation Department is very excited for the addition of a fitness trail to the Community Park," said Parks and Recreation Director Justin Bullock. "We realize that not everyone can afford a gym membership of that they might feel intimidated with various gym environments. The new fitness trail gives the community an opportunity to get healthy and maintain an active lifestyle while enjoying the outdoors."

Using other funds that had been set aside by the Greene County Board of Supervisors along with the grant from Sentara Health, the department has purchased a variety of items including a hurdle station, a chin-up bar, a balance beam, a push-up station and a sit-up station. The equipment will be spaced along the trail to allow for cardio in between strength-building stations.
