CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Drivers on Hydraulic Road will soon see contractors working in the area of Hillsdale Drive.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says message boards are now up concerning the project.

On Jan. 29, a contractor will begin work on Hydraulic Road between Seminole Trail and the Route 250 Bypass.

The work will be taking place during the overnight hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

While there, the contractor will be conducting median and drainage work among other tasks, which is preliminary work for a roundabout that is planned for the intersection of Hydraulic Road and Hillsdale Drive.

Drivers should be aware that there will be workers in and near the roadway. There may also be lane, shoulder, and turn-lane closures associated with this.

Work on the roundabout is expected to begin this spring.

VDOT says this preliminary work will be "setting the stage" for the roundabout project and other transportation improvement projects along Hydraulic Road.
