Police identify pedestrian killed in Friday crash in Augusta County
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia State Police has identified a pedestrian who was hit and killed in a Friday crash in Augusta County.
According to police, the crash occurred around midnight on Feb. 9 on northbound Route 11 at the entrance ramp to northbound Interstate 81 in Greenville.
A vehicle that was trying to merge onto the I-81 ramp could not avoid hitting the pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.
Police say that the pedestrian, identified as 37-year-old Tony L. Epperson of West Augusta, was wearing all-black, non-reflective clothing and had his back to traffic.
The driver of the vehicle was not hurt and remained on the scene following the crash.
VSP says no charges will be filed.
Officials remind pedestrians they should walk facing oncoming traffic if there are no sidewalks available. The adage is to ride “with” traffic but walk “against” it.
