RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A man from Richmond is facing charges after a loaded handgun was found in his bag on Sunday.

The Transportation Security Administration reports officers at the Richmond International Airport spotted the weapon at a security checkpoint.

The 9mm handgun was loaded with 10 bullets when an X-ray unit alerted about the bag, requiring officers to inspect it.

The firearm was removed by the Richmond Airport Police and the man was arrested on a weapons charge.

He also faces a financial civil penalty, which can get as high as $15,000 depending on the circumstances, for bringing the firearm to a security checkpoint.

This is the second firearm stopped at a checkpoint at the Richmond airport so far this year.
