GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Friday in Goochland County.

According to police, the crash occurred around 12:40 a.m. on westbound Interstate 64, about two miles east of Shallow Well Road.

A 2024 Kia Forte, driven by a 20-year-old man from Louisa, reportedly rear-ended a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 49-year-old Shawn Michael Jones of Mechanicsville, lost control and hit a guardrail.

The Kia then also lost control, rolled onto its side and hit a guardrail on the left shoulder.

Jones, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Kia suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
