CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department is asking for the public’s help after a carjacking that occurred Monday morning.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Hydraulic Road and Cedar Hill Road and then reported at the Exxon gas station just up the street.

A gray or gold sedan with California tags 8ZKT617 was carjacked around 10:45 a.m.

Police say they were already in the area recovering another vehicle that had been carjacked Sunday night.

Within minutes of completing that case just down the road from the gas station, officers responded to the new one.

There is a vague suspect description that says he is a Black man with a gray beard.

The owner of the vehicle says the man drove down Hydraulic Road, past Whole Foods.

Police believe he likely got onto the Route 250 Bypass.

Police say this is an uncommon incident for the city, with the last carjacking being reported in January 2020. However, residents should still remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

Anyone with information on the vehicle is asked to call (434) 977-4000.
