CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department is asking for help to identify an assault suspect.

According to police, the incident occurred near Riverview Park on Wednesday.

The suspect is described as a white man with a thin build who is in his late teens. He has shaggy blond hair and a mustache.

Police say the suspect allegedly approached an adult woman, made several statements to her and then touched her on her backside.

The victim told officers she was able to shove the suspect away and he then ran off.

Officers searched the park and trails in the area and there were extra patrols through Wednesday evening.

Based on the suspect’s description and age range, police do not believe this assault is associated with previously reported assaults in the area.

CPD reports all of the incidents on the Rivanna Trail are open and active investigations.
