CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (CBS19 NEWS) -- It's Bike to Work Week this week, and plenty of Charlottesville residents can be seen doing so.

According to the League of American Bicyclists, 40% of all trips in the country are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get around.

"Using bikes is a fantastic way to get around, not just for work, but for all of those shorter car trips. Less cars on the road, less fossil fuels in the environment and a little bit of exercise on the side," said Kim Parker, store manager of the Blue Ridge Cyclery.

Parker says those who may have a longer commute to work can always find alternate bike routes that may have less traffic, are quieter, and are safer. For those looking to get into biking, the Blue Ridge Cyclery offers group rides for all skill levels.
