CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- UVA Students a part of the College of Arts and Sciences, Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and School of Education and Human Development made their final walk through The Lawn as current UVA students Saturday for their final exercises ceremony.

Joyful cheers and lots of smiles and laughs were shared on The Lawn Saturday morning as the Class of 2024 crossed the finish line and officially became UVA alums. As they reflected on the last four years one word stuck out, resilience.

“We have gone through so much. Starting 2020 out in our college years during the pandemic it’s like so wonderful to actually be here,” A graduating student said.

“It was really beautiful to see the University blossom throughout the four years. We started out in masks and by the end everything was open and we had made a bunch of great friends,” A graduating student said.

“Being the COVID class, actually having a graduation, we haven’t had one since 8th grade, it’s amazing,” A graduating student said.

The Class of 2024 graduated high school in the spring of 2020 and due to COVID many of them have not experienced a graduation ceremony. But Saturday, rain or shine, their day finally came.

And for many of them the people, and the memories will last a lifetime. Now UVA alums, had some words of wisdom for the future classes of the university.

“Just be yourself. There is a lot of pressure coming into college, but once you get here, you are going to enjoy yourself,” A graduating student said.

“You have to stay motivated, even when it’s hard,” A graduating student said.

“Don’t study too much, but study enough,” A graduating student said.

“Enjoy it because it goes by really really fast. Way faster than you would ever realize,” A graduating student said.

“It’s all going to work out in the end and it's all a blast. You’ll want to keep those memories and look back and know you had a great time,” A graduating student said.

To the Class of 2024, Congratulations and we wish you the best on all your future endeavors here at CBS19 News.
