GOOCHLAND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Nelson County resident was one of two people killed in a crash last week in Goochland County.

According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 10:45 p.m. May 24 on the 2500 block of River Road West, east of the intersection with Maidens Road.

A westbound 2009 Volkswagen New Beetle hit an eastbound 2014 Honda Accord.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as 62-year-old Yolande Overton of Richmond, and the driver of the Honda, identified as 47-year-old Rodney O’Neil Harris of Faber, both died at the scene.

Police say Overton lost control of the Volkswagen going around a curve and ran off the left shoulder.

She then overcorrected and entered the eastbound lane, leading to a head-on collision neither vehicle could avoid.

Overton was wearing a seat belt, but Harris was not.

The crash is still under investigation.
