GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Greene County students may be out of school for the normal academic year, but some will be heading to summer school on Monday.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says the school zone cameras in Stanardsville will operate for a couple of hours a day between June 3 and June 28.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page, the cameras allow drivers to go up to 10 miles per hour over the speed limit, but anyone driving 11 mph or more above the limit will get a $100 fine.

The cameras will be in operation between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and again from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., only in Stanardsville

The fine is a civil penalty and will not affect an individual’s driving record.
