CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The 10th Annual Jefferson Area Motor Squad Skills Training Seminar is going on through Saturday in the Sam's Club of Charlottesville parking lot.

Thus far, the officers have been training. The actual competition starts on Friday.

It's designed to help raise money for nonprofit foundations as well as an officer who was injured in the line of duty, Trevis Wood.

"We have to train just like every other skill we have to train, so this is how we do that. We set up cone courses and work on slow-speed courses, work on those abilities," said Sgt. Lee Gibson with the Charlottesville Police Traffic Unit.

The event is free to the public.
