CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) --- The Charlottesville Fire Department is investigating the cause of a residential fire that occurred Sunday afternoon.

Multiple emergency crews were called to the 1400 block of Rutledge Avenue around 2:30 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

When units arrived at the scene, smoke was visible from the first floor. No injuries were reported but one pet was found deceased.

Deputy Chief Scott Carpenter says firefighters were able to extinguish the fire but are still investigating what started it.

“Firefighters arrived on the scene, and they had a fire in the residence, they have since extinguished the fire and are in the process of overhaul and making sure there is no hidden fire,” Carpenter said.

The occupant of the home has been displaced. Additionally, one adult male was taken into custody on the scene for public intoxication and there is no further information of his involvement at this time.
