CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) – Ninety percent of child car seats aren't installed correctly. Albemarle County Fire Rescue is making sure your child doesn't become a statistic.

This week, 27 recruits are taking an intensive 40-hour course on how to properly install car seats.

They're learning the different ways to install seats for specific cars and how to fit a child correctly in the seat.

The final test will be on Friday when the recruits conduct safety seat checks.

"We understand that there are going to be accidents that happen and what we're trying to do is limit the injuries and stuff relating from those incidents. So, if we can have a child seat properly installed, and reduce injuries from an accident that will occur, it's a benefit for everybody,” Assistant Fire Marshal Gilbert Monroe said.

It’s at 5th Street Station from 10 a.m. to noon near the Planet Fitness.

Monroe says to bring your car seat and your kid. If you can't bring your child, please remember their height and weight so they can adjust it.
