NELSON COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Residents in Nelson County in need of a cool place to go this weekend can head over to the Nelson Center.

Nelson County Emergency Services announced on Tuesday that it will have a cooling center open Friday through Sunday for residents.

This is due to forecast high temperatures and humidity levels, which will likely push heat indices above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The cooling center on Thomas Nelson Highway will be open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

Additionally, county officials are going to keep an eye on the weather forecast and may announce additional days the center will be open.

People who wish to use the center are asked to bring their own beverages and snacks.

Service animals will be allowed inside the center, but pets will not be.

The Nelson Memorial Library can be used as an alternate cooling location during its normal business hours.
